Bulgari: The Story Behind the Style, out now

Rachael Taylor’s fourth book in the Story Behind the Style series is out now, and this time the author takes us into the fabulously flamboyant world of Italian jeweller Bulgari.

Author Rachael Taylor has published her fourth book in the Story Behind the Style series, and this time the jewellery writer takes us into the fabulously flamboyant world of Italian jeweller Bulgari.

The book, which is published by Studio Press (an imprint of Bonnier) tells the tale of the famous jewellery house, starting with its humble beginnings as talented Greek silversmith Sotirio Voulgaris sought to make - a new - name for himself in Italy.

The book is full of la dolce vita spirit that the brand embodies, and charts its heyday in 1960s Rome, when stars would flock to the city to buy its jewels - including Elizabeth Taylor, who famously said “undeniably, one of the biggest advantages to filming Cleopatra in Rome was Bulgari's shop”.

Following the format of Rachael’s previous Story Behind the Style books on Cartier, Tiffany & Co, and Rolex, the Bulgari book acts as a guide to the most iconic jewellery and watch designs in the brand’s history… Serpenti, Bvlgari Bvlgari, Octo, Monete, Diva’s Dream, Trombino, and more.

It also explores Bulgari’s famous following, from the icons of mid-century cinema, such as Grace Kelly and Gina Lollobrigida, to modern ambassadors including Zendaya and Priyanka Chopra.

Bulgari: The Story Behind the Style takes us behind the scenes, too. You will discover little-known stories about the family that founded it, marvel at the major diamonds that have passed through the house, learn about the craft that goes into creating each exquisite piece of jewellery, and chart the growth of the company from a destination Italian jeweller to a global brand that has become loved not just for its jewels but its watches, handbags, and even hotels.

You can purchase Bulgari: The Story Behind the Style at leading book stores in person and online, as well as in Harrods and Selfridges. For a special purchase, signed copies of the book are available here.
